Our Philosophy

It is the philosophy of the FUMC Bedford Early Childhood Academy that children are encouraged to learn and grow by providing a foundation of developmentally appropriate experiences where all children can succeed in a safe and nurturing Christian environment.

Our programs provide inclusive settings that recognize children’s varied abilities, interests, needs, and learning styles. We offer children the opportunity to learn through active learning in a secure Christian environment.

As an extension of the ministry of the church, our preschool offers an active learning child based program reflecting the integration of physical, cognitive, social, emotional, language, self-help and aesthetic areas for the total development of the child. Children are provided opportunities to explore, discover, create and communicate as they participate in active learning experiences.

Active learning encourages curiosity, discovery and problem solving which allows individual growth and development of a positive self-image. We recognize that parents are the child’s first teachers. Children learn best when parents are involved in their educational program. The primary bridge between home and school is the involvement of family and community. the

How to register:
The ECA has open enrollment through out the year based on availability.  Those interested in registering may call 817-283-5780 to schedule a visit.

School Age

We provide School-Age (Kindergarten-12 years old) care during the summer, Christmas break and Spring break, and for any school holidays in which we remain open.  Advance notice is required.

Our summer School-Age program is divided up into week-long themes to continue incorporating learning and education even while on Summer vacation.  Extra tutoring or educational help in reading or math is often available, as well as a summer Spanish program—please call and ask if you would like more details or are looking for specific tutoring help for your child.

Kinder

New for Fall 2014 will be our private, part-time Kindergarten class.  Students must be 5 years old by Sept. 1st.  Our qualified kindergarten teach has her BA degree, the certification exam to teach, and years of experience. Our designated school-age room allows for hands-on learning experiences for our students.

For Kindergarten education we use Zoo-phonics Safari (Reading, Spelling, and Writing), and SmartyANTS, a next-generation educational tool with comprehensive curriculum.  Abeka curriculum is used for Math, Sciences, History and Social Studies.

For the 2014-2015 school year, Kindergarten will take place during the hours of 12:15pm and 3:15pm (12pm-3:30pm permitted for drop off and pick up).  Before and After school care is also available, with the same teacher in our PreK classroom.

Preschool

Our preschool accepts children from 6 weeks of age through PreK (4 years old by Sept. 1st).  We have an infant nursery, a brand new toddler/early walker room, and a classroom for each age: 2 years old, 3 years old, and 4 years old (PreK).

The preschool uses Frog Street Press curriculum to address all areas of development, or domains, for preschool children, including but not limited to:

· Language Development/Literacy

· Cognitive Development (math, science, creative arts)

· Social and Emotional Development

· Physical and health Development
